  51. Tony, I've a Drake R4B and while I don't remember the diffs to
  52. the A model, they are both very nice recievers with mechanical
  53. filters for selctivity. I prefer them to the R4C in the it
  54. has crystal filters that are hardwired to the mode switch where
  55. the A and B give the ability to set the mode to AM and the filter
  56. to CW and so on. (CW selectivity on a very qrm'd SSB signal
  57. can make a major difference...)

  59. I'd say 'go for it'... if its reasonably clean and appears to
  60. work reasonably.

  71.  A few years ago, there was an article in QST about the CMOS Super
  72. Keyer II. I bought the kit from Idiom Press, and put it together in
  73. a few hours. It's a 1 chip microprocessor, and you just add some
  74. resistors, switches, a pot and battery holder. Works great.
  75. It has 4 memory positions, and is controlled by Morse commands
  76. on the paddles. Speeds from 6 to 60 on the pot. Works great
  77. in contests, and batteries last for years. Send a sase to Idiom

  98. Radio Shack has just released an adjustment to the HTX-202 Handie....
  99. It has to do with the PTT tone volume.. It goes as Follows
  100.  
  101. If you have trouble getting the touch-tones on the HTX-202 2-meter Ham Radio
  102. Transceiver (Cat No. 19-1120 ) to work with the local Repeater, try resetting
  103. the unit's touch-tone audio level.
  104.  
  105. To do this, you can adjust the touchtone pot (RV 1001) down until the tones
  106. don't decode, then up again until it JUST works. (Simply tuning down is NOT 
  107. as reliable as this metho  You uld make NO other adjustments!
  108.  
  109. Also, many repeaters will read back the tones once they decode properly. If
  110. you are unsure how to do this, you can find out from another repeater member.

  113. This is all R.S. would have to say about there HTx-202. If you have had any
  114. problems with using the phone patch, this should cure it. Some have been
  115. setting the << Auto Reply >> function in the main setup to << ON >> to
  116. cure this problem. If you have, set it back to << OFF >> before adjusting
  117. (RV 1001) pot.  Hope this helps..............

  190. A friend recently purchased an ICOM IC211 2 meter 
  191. all mode radio with the remote vfo box (RM2). 
  192. Unfortunately it didn't come with manuals, and
  193. now has  developed a couple of 
  194. problems. One is really low output (blown final?)
  195. and the other is a tendancy to hop frequencies
  196. while in operation (sometimes to 144.0, sometimes
  197. inverted on the repeater channel). 
  198.  
  199. He'd really like to track down a manual, a service 
  200. manual, or   at least a schematic for the beast, along with
  201. any information about these problems (i.e. are
  202. there some typical failure modes in these 
  203. radios, like the IC22S grommet problem?) Probably
  204. there is some useful information on mods and 
  205. stuff out there also that would be of interest
  206. too - I know these were pretty popular and 
  207. there were some front end mods for them.

  209. He doesn't have net access, but I can relay to 
  210. him or provide phone information.

  234. Well, after 3 weeks of perfect operation with my third 742A, I decided to
  235. try the S-meter squelch mode again.  Worked great for about 10 minutes, then
  236. the display froze up and it shut off just like the second radio I had.  Now
  237. when powered up, it displays -on- for a few seconds and shuts down.  The key
  238. sequence for resetting the cpu doesn't help.  So it's back to HRO again. 
  239. I'm getting really tired of this.

  259. Yaesu has a brand new entry level transceiver called the FT840.

  287. Actually, pvalko, it isn't obvious that a Ten-Tec PTO beats a synthesizer.
  288. Certainly, Ten-Tec does have reputation for building exceptional receivers,
  289. but I'm not one to simply assume "it is a Ten-Tec, it must be like all the
  290. others".

  329. I recently bought what appears to be a 4 port microwave delay of some sort.
  330. It was manufactured by MCS of Monrovia, CA, is a model # CO-9540 and has
  331. an illustration on it that appears to be a diagram for a 4 port network
  332. in a diamond configuration with the leg between ports 3 and 4 as a delay 
  333. line.  Outside it's just a grey box with 4 Type N connectors. Inside 4 
  334. pieces of hardline are connected between the N's.

  371. This sort of thing is already a problem. I saw Icoms on construction
  372. projects as long ago as over ten years ago, thumbwheels and all.
  373. Some of these radios were RENTED from outfits that were in the
  374. two-way business and should have known better. Take a look at
  375. whats in 47 CFR ... argh. That volume of the rules has hidden itself
  376. in this mess. Its the first volume of the FCC R&R and it has
  377. the rules for "type acceptance" as well as approved, notified,
  378. and so on.... These rules have been made progressivley tighter
  379. just because of this crud.
